Ododo tasks FRSC, NURTW on highway safety

Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to prioritise the safety of commuters on state highways.

Ododo gave the charge in Lokoja on Thursday, at the FRSC Town Hall Meeting as part of its Ember Months Campaign for safe driving.

The governor, represented by Commissioner for Transport, Mr Atuluku Victor, emphasised the importance of preserving travellers’ lives, as every citizen contributed to the development of Kogi and Nigeria.

Ododo stressed the need for collective effort to prevent accidents during the ember months.

“Passengers should report drivers who speed or drive dangerously on highways as having good roads doesn’t justify reckless driving.”

In his welcome address, FRSC Kogi Sector Commander, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, explained that the ember months’ campaign aimed to ensure safety and free flow of traffic during the yuletide season.

“The corps has deployed 600 personnel, 29 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, and one heavy tow truck to achieve this goal.”

Also, Mr Osage Ronald, Kogi Director of the National Orientation Agency, highlighted the significance of every citizen’s contribution to Nigeria’s growth and development. He emphasised that any life lost due to road traffic crashes hindered the nation’s well-being and progress.
