DHQ Reacts To Allegations Connecting Army General To 6-Year Detention Of Seaman Abbas

The Defence Headquarters has reacted to social media reports and pictures of a serving senior officer, Brigadier General MS Adamu with allegations that he has links to the case of Seaman Abbas Haruna.

Recall that the case of Seaman Abass made it to the public recently after his wife alleged that he has been in detention for nearly six years.

The wife made the allegations when she was featured on a radio station in Abuja.

A statement issued by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau on Tuesday, clarified that General Adamu is no way connected to the case of Seaman Abbas.

According to the statement, the general public should allow the committee set up by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa to conclude its findings without “prejudice to public opinion.”

It also appealed to the public to restrain from comments it claimed are particularly false and capable of infringing on the fundamental human rights and privacy of the senior officer.

“The senior officer has the right to seek for legal action against any person or organization that posts his picture(s) in connection with Seaman Abbas case,” the statement reads.

“The military authority continues to assure Nigerians of its total commitment to the rule of law. We will do everything possible to get to the bottom of the case, and the public will be duly notified about the outcome.”
