The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Thursday, charged troops to take teamwork seriously for successful operations.
Lagbaja gave the charge at the Nigerian Army Small Arms Championship (2024) Camp Fire Night, at the Jaji Military Cantonment Range Jaji, Kaduna State.
The Army Chief was represented by Chief Training (Army), Maj.-Gen. Sani Muhammad, at the week-long championship, featuring 109 officers and 433 soldiers.
The participants include personnel of the Army Headquarters Garrison, Abuja; 1 Division Kaduna; 2 Division Ibadan; 3 Division Jos; and 6 Division Port Harcourt.
Others are 8 Division Sokoto; 81 Division Lagos; 82 Division Enugu; and 4 Special Forces Command Doma, Nasarawa.
Lagbaja reminded the participants that the competition was aimed at enhancing their team spirit.
“From what we have seen, many of you have imbibed and showcased the desired comradeship,” he said.
He congratulated those who won medals, reminding them that they were selected to compete in the championship not because they were better than the others.
The COAS urged them to draw from the lessons they learnt and apply such in their various formations’ training.
He called on them to also be aware that no one could do it alone.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), Maj.-Gen. M.A. Etsu-Ndagi , lauded the efforts of the various contingents.
Etsu-Ndagi said the commendable performance of many of the competitors testified to how well-trained the Nigerian Army is.
“Our high standard of training is no in doubt a reflection of the far-reaching extent to which training in the Nigerian Army has been positively impacted upon by the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy,” he said
