The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command on Monday, decorated 135 newly promoted men and officers of the command.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, held at the ECOWAS Joint Border Command Post in Seme-krake, Comptroller Kayode Kolade, the Command Area Controller charged the newly promoted officers to continue striving for excellence.
According to him, the promotion is a testament of hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence of the officers.
“Your elevation is in recognition of your exceptional courage, integrity and professionalism.
“As we celebrate this success, we should also know that it comes with huge responsibilities.
“Therefore, I charge you to be responsible enough to continue striving for excellence.
“Remember, leadership is not about titles or positions but a huge responsibility. I encourage you to be role models, mentors and coaches.
“Lead with humility, empathy and compassion,” he said.
Kolade urged officers that were not promoted not to be discouraged.
“To those who were not promoted, I urge you not to be discouraged. Promotion comes from God.
“Continue to work hard, exercise patience and your time will come.
“Do not relent or get demoralised,” he said.
Kolade said that one Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Seven Assistant Comptrollers of Customs, Deputy Comptrollers of Customs and 10 Chief Superintendents of Customs got promoted to Assistant Comptrollers of Customs,
He also said that 12 Superintendents of Customs were promoted to Chief Superintendents of Customs and 12 Deputy Superintendents of Customs to Superintendents of Customs.
According to him, 18 Assistant superintendents of Customs were promoted to Deputy Superintendents of Customs while 29 Assistant Superintendents of Customs 2, were promoted to Assistant Superintendents of Customs.
“Also, 15 Inspectors of Customs were promoted to Assistant Superintendents of Customs 2, while 18 Assistant Inspectors of Customs were promoted to Inspectors of Customs, six
Customs Assistants 2- Customs Assistants One, and seven Customs Assistants, 3 to Customs Assistants.
“Overall, 89 senior officers got promoted in the command while 46 officers were promoted in the junior ranks.”
He prayed that the achievement would inspire them to greater heights to make positive impact on the service.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Mr Abdullahi Husseini, Public Relations Officer, Semé Command, thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Adewale Adeniyi and NCS for approving their promotion.
Husseini, who was promoted to Chief Superintendent of Customs, promised that they would justify the new positions with more commitment to service.
