Road crashes claim 33 lives in Edo in 2 months – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said that no fewer than 33 persons were killed in road accidents across Edo State between January and February.

Cyril Matthew, Edo Sector Commander of FRSC, disclosed this to newsmen in Benin on Tuesday.

Matthew stated that 15 deaths were recorded in January from 17 crashes involving 119 persons.

“In February, 171 passengers were involved in 18 accidents, resulting in 18 deaths and 69 injuries,” he said.

The sector commander attributed the crashes to brake failure, speeding, dangerous driving, phone use and route violations.

He, however, urged motorists to avoid overloading, drunk driving, night driving and speeding to ensure road safety.

He said the FRSC was intensifying safety campaigns across the state just as he called on stakeholders to collaborate for zero road crashes
