NSCDC strengthening collaborations to tackle security challenges-Audi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says  it will strengthen collaboration with sister  security agencies and other stakeholders to actualise its core mandate.

The Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr Abubakar Audi said this at a maiden  security summit organised by the corps on Thursday in Abakaliki.

Audi, represented by the Deputy Commandant+General in-charge of Operations, Philip Ayuba, said its civil defence community remained key to actualising the mandate of safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.

“The civil defence community is significant as it underscores the corps critical roles in enhancing security using an inclusive approach.

“Community relations help build trust, credibility and loyalty with residents.

“Strong community relations promote positive reputation in communities and is the vehicle to convey desired goals of effective security,” he said.

He lauded the Ebonyi command’s initiative in tackling security challenges, noting that it could become a model to be adopted nationally.

“This is due to its dynamics in solving multi-dimensional security issues.

“We hope that when internalised, it will help check crimes such as armed robbery, illegal mining, vandalism, and ritual killings among others.

“I, therefore, urge relevant stakeholders to identify with the initiative, not to undermine their endeavours or discredit them ,” he said.

The state commandant of the corps, Mr Francis Nnadi said the security summit would witness induction of new members into the civil defence community.

“The event marks a new chapter in our efforts to strengthen national security and build a safer and more secured society.

“We presently face complex security challenges in the society which made us form the community where security operatives and residents  meet.

“The summit is therefore, an opportunity to engage, deliberate and forge new strategies to ensure safety and well-being of our communities,” he said.

Gov. Francis Nwifuru, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security, Mr Etta Ude commended the NSCDC for the initiative, describing it  as “apt and timely”

“The state government will continue to support security agencies to maintain the  safety of lives and property.

“We are ensuring that all security mandates contained in the administration” s Peoples Charter of Needs mantra are being met,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that  Nwifuru,  alongside other distinguished individuals, were bestowed with various categories of awards for their contributions to enhancing security in the state.
