The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has detained five suspects over alleged vandalism and stealing in the state.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Kano, the Command’s Spokesman, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, said four of the suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalizing and stealing items at Government Secondary School Unguwar Rimi and GSS Unguwa Uku in Tarauni Local Government Area.
“They stole roofing sheets, iron rods, iron buckets, 20 three-seater cushion chairs, mats, seven window frames and two ceiling fans among other items.
“Important documents, including teaching and learning materials, were also not spared by the vandals.
“An attempt is being made to recover the items sold to a receiver, who is also in NSCDC custody,” Idris-Ibrahim said.
The spokesman said that the fifth suspect, aged 17, of Gidan Tela, PRP, Dambatta Local government Kano, was apprehended by the Corps after vandalizing and stealing electric pole equipment at PRP, Dambatta.
He said that the exhibits recovered included six insulators, a 3-meter aluminum cable, and different varieties of nuts and brass.
Idris-Abdullahi said that investigation into the case has been completed and the suspects would be charged to court.
He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of Mr Shafi’u Abdulmumin, to safeguard lives and critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.
