Non-Custodial Services: Nigerian Correctional Service seeks community support

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has sought the support of the Abuja community in the implementation of non-custodial services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Olatubosun Ajibogun, made the request during a courtesy visit to the Ona of Abaji, Alh. (Dr) Adamu Yunusa.

This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, (PRO), NCoS, FCT command, Mr Samson Duza on Friday in Abuja.

Ajibogun explained that non-custodial services, such as probation, parole, and community service, were designed to rehabilitate offenders and prepare them for reintegration into society.

He noted that the success of non-custodial services depends on the support and collaboration of the community, and solicited the royal father’s assistance in sensitising the community on the importance of non-custodial services.

“The NCoS’s non-custodial services are designed to provide an alternative to imprisonment, focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration rather than punishment.

“By seeking community support, the NCoS aims to create a safer and more secure society, where offenders are given the opportunity to reform and become productive members of society,” he said.

Responding, the Ona of Abaji expressed willingness to further strengthen the already existing relationship between the community and the NCos, for the mutual benefit of the residents and natives alike.

Yunusa assured the controller of his support, promising to collaborate with the NCoS to achieve its core mandates.

He praised the NCoS for its efforts in maintaining public safety and promised to support the service in its efforts to rehabilitate offenders.

The royal father also offered prayers and blessings for the controller’s successful tenure, wishing him well as the helmsman of the FCT command.
