The Nigerian Navy, on Thursday, inaugurated a solar-powered motorised borehole with solar lights at Lassa community, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the project was facilitated by Rear Admiral Samson Bura.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief of Naval Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla, said that the project was under the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.
Represented by Rear Admiral Monday Unurhiere, Ogalla, also said that the project would further contributes to the ongoing Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Today’s inauguration of this project does not only resonate with the vision of President Bola Tinubu, but aptly captures the essence of the quick impact projects.
“Traditionally and indeed globally, civil military relations is intent on maintaining peace and stability by ensuring that military power is used to protect rather than threaten the people.
“Accordingly, on the one hand, the Nigerian Navy offers its accomplished senior officers the opportunity to touch lives at the grassroots level through this project,” he said.
Ogalla also solicited the support and collaboration of the community, in providing timely information on insecurity while imploring community members and users to maintain the project.
In his remarks, Bura said, that the inauguration of the industrial borehole, with 80,000-liter capacity overhead tank, marks a significant day for both the Nigerian Navy and the people of Lassa.
He said that the Nigerian Navy values the cooperation and goodwill it receives from communities across the nation, particularly in Borno.
He appreciated the support and collaboration of the Lassa community in addressing security challenges.
“Together with other security agencies, the Nigerian Navy remains committed to ensuring peace and safety in Borno,” he said.
In his response, Gov. Babagana Zulum, appreciated the Nigeria Navy for the project and called on the community to take ownership of it for maximum benefit.
