….As NASEME FC Trashes Imeke FC in a Penalty Shoot out

The Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) Commandant’s Football Cup for Year 2024 was officially kicked off on 15 July, 2024 by the Commandant, Major General Oladele Arogundade, with a spirited opening match between the NASEME Bufalloes FC and Imeke FC. The competition, a brainchild of the Commandant, is designed to promote team spirit, foster positive civil-military relations, and enhance social integration between the barracks community and the wider Auchi community.

During the opening ceremony, the Commandant who was represented by the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Colonel Thompson Oshuporu charged the match officials to uphold fairness and impartiality throughout the competition. He emphasized the importance of sports as a unifying force, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship and understanding between military personnel and civilians.

Furthermore, he stated that the competition is part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening ties between NASEME personnel and Auchi community at large. This initiative aims to build bridges, address potential misunderstandings, and create a more inclusive environment. The competition promises to be a vibrant display of sporting excellence, while simultaneously serving as a platform for meaningful interaction and community building, he added.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Staff Officer Physical Training, Lieutenant Martins Oyelami averred that the tournament features eight participating team within Auchi and environs. He added that the competition will further solidifying the role of sports in promoting positive social interaction and community development in Auchi. The NASEME Commandant’s Football Cup is poised to become a recurring event, solidifying the commitment to fostering strong and enduring relationships between the military and the local community.

The match ended in a victorious penalty shoot out for NASEME Buffaloes FC, trashing Imeke FC with a 4 – 2 penalty scores.
