Katsina Govt. partners commission on cyber security, digital innovation

The Katsina State Government says it’s partnering with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to strengthen cyber security and enhance digital innovation.

The Director-General, Katsina Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (KATDICT), Mr Naufal Ahmad, said this on Tuesday in Katsina, at the maiden North-west Data Protection and Privacy Training.

The training, he said, is in line with Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State commitment to transforming the state as the leader in digital innovation and cyber security in the North-west.

Ahmad explained that the training was a critical step towards building a resilient and secured digital future for the zone.

“As we digitise government services and expand digital access to citizens, data protection is no longer optional; it is a foundation of trust,” he said.

In his remarks, Dr Vincent Olatunji, the NDPC National Commissioner, commended the state government’s foresight in hosting the training, which he said, would go a long way in boosting the economy.

“Data is the new oil, but only when it is protected and responsibly managed.

“This partnership with Katsina demonstrates strong leadership and sets the pace for other regions,” he said.

Olatunji said that the state administration had consistently recognised the crucial role of digital literacy in modernising public service delivery and creating new economic opportunities for Katsina residents.

He said that the training covered essential areas like the Nigeria Data Protection Act, data lifecycle management, organisational compliance protocols, and cyber security best practices.

“These, in no small measure, will equip participants with the practical skills to implement robust digital safeguards across North-west states,” he said.
