Israeli military police, soldiers clash over abuse claims

Israeli media reported on Monday that during a raid by the Israeli military police on an Israeli military base, there were clashes between the military and the soldiers stationed there.

The police reportedly came to the Sde Teiman camp near the desert city of Beersheba to arrest soldiers on charges of abuse, several Israeli media outlets reported.

They were investigating allegations of a case of severe mistreatment of a Palestinian prisoner. An Israeli army spokesman said they were examining the report about the confrontation.

The Sde Teiman prisoner camp houses fighters from an elite unit of the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas.

The human rights organization Amnesty International recently accused Israel of mistreating and torturing Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip.

Thousands of security detainees are held in Israeli detention facilities. Many were arrested during the massacre by Hamas militants and other groups on October 7 and also during the subsequent Gaza War.
