FRSC to intensify enforcement on installation of speed limit devices

Ogun Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says it will set-up special operations to check the recklessness of truck drivers in the state.

Mr Fasakin Akinwumi, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ota that the setting of special operations would help minimise incessant cases of road crashes.

Akinwumi spoke against the backdrop of the three separate accidents that claimed 25 lives in the state on Saturday.

He explained that six people lost their lives in the first crash on  Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the second one claimed one on Sagamu axis, while the third accident killed 18 persons at Gbaga on the Ikorodu-Sagamu road.

“The three road crashes were caused by recklessness of truck drivers on the highways following disregard for speed limit.

“However, the FRSC will intensify its enforcement, especially on the installation of speed limit devices for trucks and trailers, who are fond of flouting speed limit directive,” he assured.

The sector commander appealed to motorists to desist from excessive speed and wrong overtaking to prevent avoidable road crashes.
