FRSC on track to meet global best practices in road safety, says Corps Marshal

The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Shehu Mohammed says the Corps is on track to meet global best practices in road safety.

Mohammed said this at the one-day retreat organised for Commanding officers with the theme “Repositioning FRSC for Enhanced Service Delivery” on Monday in Abuja.

The FRSC boss said that the retreat was organised as part of the Corps’ efforts to improve road safety in Nigeria and reduce the incidence of Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs).

He said the retreat was in line with the FRSC’s mandate to prevent road crashes, clear obstructions, and educate road users on safe driving practices.

He also said that the Corps was working to strengthen its capacity and improve the skills of its personnel to effectively discharge its duties.

“By building its professionalism, the FRSC aims to reduce road crashes, save lives, and promote a safe and efficient transportation system in Nigeria,”he said.

According to him, we are here for the training of commanding officers because we believe that training and capacity building of staff is the hallmark of any organisation that want to move forward.

“We are here to assess our skill gaps and create more opportunities for improvements.

“We also believe this training will strengthen our resilience for sustainability of our system to ensure road crashes were tackled to the barest minimum,”

Mohammed assured the Nigerian road users and motoring public of the Corps’ commitment to continually carry its mandate effectively and efficiently.

He said ” we will also key into the transformation agenda of President Bola Tinubu by creating a safe and secured motoring environment for the public.

“This is to help them navigate and carry our their lawful activities without any traffic infractions,”

Speaking, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, a resource person, urged Commanding Officers to embrace ethical leadership and generate new ideas for effective service delivery.

Ochoche emphasised that ethics was essential for public service, stating that ethical leadership helps control public organisation scandals.

The Don, who spoke on command leadership in FRSC stressed that training was crucial for any good organisation.

He advised the Commanding Officers to be role models, open, and accessible, while promoting a positive culture and vision.

“As commanding officers, you must distinguish between mistakes and crimes and deal with them differently.

“Avoid nepotism and criticism in your command to have good result,”he said.

In response, participants speaking on behalf of the Commanding Officers pledged their support and commitment to the Corps Marshal and FRSC management.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prof. Sunday Ochoche is the executive director, Aija Consult and visiting Professor, Department of Political Science and Defence Studies, Nigeria Defense Academy (NDA), Kaduna State.
