Female Police Inspector: Court Adjourns Murder Trial Against 12 Suspects To Dec 4

The trial judge, Justice Augusta Chukwu adjourned the matter after counsel to the 1st and 3rd defendants, Sunny Nwokoro cross-examined one of the witnesses, who identified himself as Harrison Emmanuel; a Police Officer from the Bori Division.

During the cross-examination, Mr Emmanuel alleged that the suspects assaulted the late Christiana with sticks and blocks, after which she died on the way to the hospital.

Counsel for the 1st and 3rd defendants, Sunny Nwokoro who spoke to our correspondent after the court proceeding said, “We have cross-examined him and he has answered the questions. That’s all I can say; I can’t say more than that.”

On her part, Lead Counsel for the police, Mercy Nweke, said she could not make any statement until the commissioner of Police is briefed on the matter.

As you may know, the suspects were reportedly travelling from Delta State to Akwa Ibom State for a wedding programme on April 25, 2024  when they allegedly hacked the female Police Inspector, Mrs Christiana Erekere, to death at her duty post in Taabaa Police Station, Khana Local Government Area of the state.

This was after the suspects who were travelling in two vehicles were stopped for a routine check in front of the police station.

The deceased, Christiana Erekere was among a team of police officers conducting the search.
