Yuletide: NSCDC FCT Command assures resident of adequate security, deploys 4,000 personnel

By Palma Ileye

Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of 4000 personnel across the FCT and its environs to provide adequate security for lives and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure during the festive period.

This was disclosed in a press release issued by Acting FCT CDPRO, DSC Monica Ojobi to newsmen in Abuja.

According to the statement, personnel for the Yuletide assignment were drawn from various specialised departments and units such as the Special Intervention Squad, Operation Adakasu, the Special Female Squad, FSF, Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, Arm Squad, Special duties, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit, SPU, Intelligence Unit and the operation department to beef up security within and around the FCT.

Addressing the personnel at the Command Headquarters, Odumosu, charged them to comply strictly with the operation order and ensure adequate coverage of all critical infrastructure, worship centres, recreation centres, markets, shopping malls, bus parks, and various black spots in the city with appropriate vigilance to nip any unforeseen circumstances in the bud.

He expressed the determination of the Command to work round the clock to achieve a hitch free celebration by maintaining peace, order and national cohesion before, during and after the Yuletide period.

“We are aware of the peculiarities of crime perpetrated by criminals in this type of season, and we are ready to curtail any security breaches.

“Those who may want to take advantage of the festive period to undermine the government’s efforts by committing crime against the state and residents of the FCT are advised to have a rethink,” he said.

He warned vandals and scavengers to steer clear of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT, as the Corps was going to sustain its ongoing 24 hours surveillance and patrol to protect public infrastructure in the FCT.

He vowed, “Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure remains sacrosanct, and we will not rest on our oars until the last of the vandals leaves the FCT.”

He advised personnel to ensure maximum cooperation and synergy with sister agencies, especially the Nigeria Police during the yuletide operations and warned all arm bearing men to exercise caution and avoid misuse of firearms or face necessary sanctions.

He advised residents of the FCT to continue to go about their normal businesses, to be vigilant, ensure moderation in their celebration and report any suspicious movement of persons, group of persons or items to the Corps or any security agencies near them for prompt action.

He also congratulated the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and all the Christian communities in the FCT on the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebration, as the Corps work in collaboration with other security agencies to guarantee a hitch-free celebration.
