Two men, Kenneth Agwazin and Ayuba Pojti, on Friday pleaded guilty at a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan to participating in the stealing of a set of gold jewelries valued at N600,000.
Agwazin and Pojti pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing them after the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing of various property were read.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the third defendant in the matter, Tomiwa Akinsola, had however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was consequently admitted to a bail of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the suit until Feb. 6 for judgment and March 31 for commencement of trial of Akinsola.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, had told the court that the defendants committed the crime on Dec. 23 at around 2 a.m., at Asi-Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ayeni added that the three men, with others now at large, were apprehended after stealing various items, property of one Tade Suara.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State 2000.
