The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Kemi Nandap
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reiterated committment to empowering its personnel through training and capacity building ensuring that reforms continued to thrive nationwide.
The Comptroller-General, NIS, Kemi Nandap said this during a ceremony to decorate 15 newly promoted Assistant Comptrollers-General [ACGs], 95 Comptrollers of Immigration Service (CIS) promoted personnel on Friday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the service promoted 13,977 senior and junior officers across the country in the just concluded 2024 promotion examination.
Nandap said that the milestone promotion was more than just a recognition of excellence saying that it was a call to action urging the service to step up and take on greater responsibilities.
She maintained that the service was also committed to transforming the NIS into a 21st-century powerhouse that’s agile, responsive, and tailored to Nigeria’s unique needs.,
“Recall that upon my assumption in office as the 19th CGIS in March – this year, I made commitment to ensure staff growth and development.
“I call for unity, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose among all officers; and charged you to close ranks as well as work collectively toward our shared goal of delivering efficient and effective immigration services to Nigeria.
“This promotion must be seen as a call to greater responsibility. With a renewed focus on border governance, migration management, and the application of cutting-edge technology in our operations, we are determined to create a Service that is responsive to the needs of Nigeria in the 21st century.
“We will continue to prioritise training and capacity building to empower personnel to sustain and improve upon our reforms.
“This is especially the integration of modern technology into our operations, from biometric data systems to electronic gates at our airports,”she said.
While charging the newly promoted and decorated officers, the NIS CG emphasised that the nation and Service in particular placed greater trust in their capabilities and as such, must redouble efforts to face complex challenges.
She said “your leadership experience and managerial skills; integrity and strategic thinking will be essential in your new responsibilities to reposition the NIS as a key player in the security architecture of our country.
“The NIS, and indeed the nation, looks to you for leadership in critical areas such as securing our borders, enhancing migration control, and maintaining the integrity of our immigration processes.
“As leaders, the task before you is enormous and you must be prepared to confront the challenges with boldness and determination. Central to our success is the need for you to ensure discipline, professionalism, and integrity at all levels of the Service.
“As you wear your new ranks with pride, always remember the responsibility that comes with it and be determined to excel. I am confident that you will rise to the occasion when duty calls.
“May you continue to serve the NIS and the nation with continued success and robust health. Above all, let us work together to achieve the mandate of the Service,”she said.
Nandap however, insisted that corruption and unethical behavior would not be tolerated, as the service seek to instill in officers, the virtues necessary for effective service delivery.
She said “It is now your core duty to uphold highest standards, set a shining example for the junior officers who look up to you and network with other Agencies for effective collaboration that creates a positive perception.
“As leaders, the onus is on you to embody the values of transparency, accountability, and excellence in all that you do,”she said.
In his remarks, Mr Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) urged the newly promoted officers to strive to excel in their respective roles.
Ahmed tasked the NIS CG saying “enjoin your staff to do well to thier best ability and assist you in moving the service to the next level and forward.
“There are so many reforms that are taking place within the NIS and we are looking forward and we shall never look backward.
“The NIS has come of age and you should do your work to the best of your ability. I wish you all the best and extend a heartfelt congratulations to all of you and to your members of your family,”he said.
While appreciating the service for the promotion, one of the newly decorated officers, Comptroller of Immigration Service (CIS), Ms Nene Orupabo expressed gratitude to God for counting her worthy to be part of the milestone.
Orupabo assured the service of her commitment to the nation adding that the rank had called for more work and dedication.
“Wherever I am send to serve, I will do even better than I have done before.
“By the grace of God, I’ll raise the image of the NIS, and at large, the Nation and also by uplifting the renewed hope agenda of our dear President Bola Tinubu,”.
