The Al-Istiqama University in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, has donated two motorcycles to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to enhance the agency’s operation against drug abuse in the area.
This is contained in a statement on Saturday by the spokesman of the Kano State Command of the NDLEA, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.
The statement said the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Shehu, presented the motorcycles when the State Commander of the agency, Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, paid the school a courtesy visit.
“The visit was part of the Command’s continued efforts to sensitize university students and the surrounding communities on the dangers of illicit substances, with the goal of preventing their use” the statement said.
It noted that the donation was made on behalf of the university’s founder, Sen. Abdurrahman Kawu-Sumaila, as part of the university’s commitment to support the fight against drug abuse.
The statement said the donation would significantly enhance the NDLEA’s surveillance and operational capabilities in Sumaila and environs, including prompt response to invitations and operations in apprehending drug peddlers around the campus.
Responding, the Kano State NDLEA Commander, Idris-Ahmad, commended the university for the donation.
Represented by the NDLEA Wudil Area Commander, ACN Sadiya Ahmad-Dogara, Idris-Ahmed reiterated the commitment of the agency to intensify efforts in combating illicit drugs and drug abuse in the area.
He said that the renewed collaboration marks a crucial step in the ongoing fight against drug-related issues and ensuring a safer and healthier environment for students and the community at large.
