The Nigerian Army on Tuesday reitreated commitment to protect power towers and installations from vandalism in Yobe.
Brig.-Gen. Marcel Ejike, the Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Damaturu, Yobe, stated this at a “ public speaking engagement” to mark the 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
He said: “Since I reported, and with the efforts of the state governor, there has been constant light, that is the effort we have put in place to secure the towers.”
Ejike said the essence of the engagement was to enlighten secondary schools students on the army and encourage them to join the army.
“Army is not only about fighting; it has many other professional bodies in the system that they can enrol into to be good ambassadors of their country,” Ejike said.
He said the army earlier began the celebration of its 161 years in existence with special prayers at mosques and churches, respectively, adding that the grand finale would hold on July 6 in Jos.
Also speaking, Alhaji Bukar Modu, Director, Schools, Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, commended the army for its counter-insurgency operation.
He said that with the help of the troops, schools hitherto inaccessible are now functioning.
