Troops Charged to Uphold Army Values as Maj Gen Dangana Takes Over Command

The Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison witnessed a seamless transition of leadership on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, as Major General Koko Isoni officially handed over the reins of command to Major General Maxwell Dangana. The ceremony, held at AHQ Garrison in Abuja, symbolized the Nigerian Army’s tradition of continuity, professionalism, and commitment to operational excellence.

In a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Njideka Clara Agwu, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Army Headquarters Garrison, Maj Gen Isoni, in his farewell address, described the handover not merely as a routine event, but as a reaffirmation of the Army’s enduring standards of discipline, dedication, and service.

He praised the troops for their loyalty and achievements during his tenure, particularly in operations and inter-unit competitions that brought honour to the Garrison. Maj Gen Isoni also expressed unwavering confidence in his successor, describing Maj Gen Dangana as a seasoned and disciplined leader, well-equipped to steer the Garrison to greater heights.

He urged troops to continue upholding core military values of commitment, loyalty, and accountability, while emphasizing that the incoming commander is known for his firm and principled approach—warning that behaviours previously overlooked will no longer be tolerated.

Touching on the broader security environment, Maj Gen Isoni reminded personnel of the critical role the Army plays in safeguarding the nation, not just for institutional pride, but for the peace and stability of Nigerian society as a whole.

The ceremony featured traditional rites including the signing of handing and taking over notes, presentation of the command flag, decoration of the new commander, and a group photograph.
