The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Mr Jonathan Towuru as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) to represent the South-South geopolitical zone on the Police Management Team.
Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC, confirmed the appointment in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ani said that prior to his appointment; Towuru had served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 6, Calabar.
He said that Towuru, born on December 6, 1965, in Ouwodo Kpokpo Olomu Town, Ughelli South LGA of Delta State, would replace Mr Daniel Pedro, who recently retired from his position as DIG in charge of ICT.
Ani said Towuru had previously held various roles, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) at the State CID in Enugu, Deputy Force Secretary at Force Headquarters in Abuja, and Deputy Commandant at the Police College in Maiduguri, Borno State.
He said the PSC Chairman, Mr Hashimu Argungu, presided over the session in which the appointment was approved.
Argungu encouraged the new DIG to leverage his extensive experience in policing to make meaningful contributions to the Police Management Team and advance the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force.
He also reiterated the commission’s commitment to supporting the police in their efforts to combat crime and criminality across the nation
