The Adamawa Police Command says it has begun the training of the first batch of 85 investigators and prosecutors across Area Commands, Divisional Headquarters, and all the investigative departments of the command.
Speaking at the formal opening of the five-day capacity building workshop, the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, said the training was organised in collaboration with the state Ministry of Justice to strengthen the justice sector.
He said that the training came at the right time when the Inspector-General of Police was trying to reposition the investigation department by ensuring that all the personnel posted to Criminal Investigation Department were properly trained in investigation, prosecution and crime detection.
“Also, this training is timely when our dear country is facing a lot of security challenges, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, Boko Haram insurgency, farmer-herder clashes.
“I believe at the end of this training, we should be able to address some of these challenges,” he said.
Dankombo appreciated the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney-General for their support.
He called on the participants to participate actively in the workshop and acquire the knowledge and skills for effective service delivery.
The Commissioner for Justice, Afraimu Jingi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Isuwa Misali, thanked Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri for the release of funds for the successful training.
Jingi called on the participants to understand that successful investigation leads to successful prosecution in court and urged them to take advantage of the training to secure more convictions.
He also advised them to step down the knowledge acquired to others in their respective stations.
The state Chief Judge (CJ), described the training as timely and part of government’s efforts toward reforming the justice sector.
The CJ, represented by High Court Judge, Christopher Mapeo, advised the participants to understand the objectives of the training for better Adamawa, Nigeria and the world.
The Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Idi Ali, commended the police for organising the training for justice delivery in the state based on international standards
