The Police Command in Kogi has taken a significant step towards fostering a stronger partnership with traditional leaders to enhance security in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Miller Dantawaye, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Atah Igala, His Royal Majesty Matthew Oguche-Akpa, at his palace in Idah on Thursday.

A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, quoted the CP as expressing his readiness to collaborate with traditional rulers for the peace and progress of Kogi.

Dantawaye, accompanied by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 8 Headquarters, AIG Abubakar Zubairu, emphasised that he was in Kogi for real policing aimed at benefiting all residents.

He also sought the traditional ruler’s blessings as he serves the nation in Kogi and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the synergy between the police and traditional leadership to combat crime.

In response, the Atah Igala pledged full support from the Igala Kingdom, committing to provide intelligence and cooperation to support security efforts.

The visit included a meeting at the Area Command in Idah, where the CP and AIG were welcomed by local police officers, local government leaders, traditional chiefs, and members of the Police Community Relations Committee.

Security stakeholders reiterated their commitment to ensuring genuine security in the region and called for enhanced collaboration between law enforcement and local security outfits.

Dantawaye assured the people of Idah and Kogi state that the police would continue to work closely with communities, emphasising the importance of intelligence-sharing and cooperation to maintain law and order.
