The Police Command in Oyo State on Tuesday presented cheques to families of deceased officers who paid the supreme price while serving the nation.
The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Johnson Adenola, while presenting the cheques, said it was in fulfilment of the force’s commitment to the welfare of its gallant officers and their families.
Adenola said the event also served as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, to the welfare of dependents of all fallen officers.
He said the force acknowledged the challenges and pain accompanying the loss of the breadwinner of a house, and the only thing it could do was to provide them with some relief.
Adenola said the I-G was committed to the welfare of not just the serving, but also retirees and families of deceased officers.
According to him, no amount can fully compensate their losses, but he hopes that the little provided for them will go a long way in reducing their suffering.
He added that the force stood in solidarity with them during the difficult time.
The CP reassured serving personnel that neither the country nor the force would abandon them, noting that they would continue to demonstrate steadfastness and dedication to their well-being.
“To the dependents of our other deceased colleagues who are yet to be captured or paid their full entitlement, I wish to reassure you that the current police administration, under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, will not rest until all the outstanding backlog of claims are fully paid,” he said.
Adenola said the police had introduced a major innovation in insurance claims processing through the Nigerian Police Insurance Claim Management Portal as part of its efforts to improve service delivery.
“By harnessing technology, we are streamlining the process, eliminating bottlenecks, and ensuring beneficiaries receive their entitlements promptly.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to digital transformation and modernising our system for effective service delivery.
“I encourage all officers and personnel to fully utilise the portal and support its success.
“With insurance officers nationwide trained to administer the portal, we are forced to take our welfare administration to the next level,” he said.
