Police detain 3 suspects for alleged animal theft, burglary

The Police Command in Gombe State has apprehended three suspects for alleged animal theft and burglary in the state.

This is contained in a statement by the spokesman of the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on Tuesday in Gombe.

He said that operatives of the command on Sunday intercepted a suspect (name withheld) in possession of a stolen sheep  along Gombe – Bauchi Road.

The suspect allegedly stole the sheep from the house of one, Musa Manu of Data Jauro Wabi ward, adding that the animal had since been handed over to the owner.

Abdullahi said the police also received a complaint from Adamu Bello in Karam community in Lawanti District, Akko Local Government Area of the state.

He said the complainant alleged that on Sunday about 8:45 a.m, one of his bulls valued at N2 million was missing.

“On receipt of the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer, immediately formed a mini joint operation with local vigilante and hunters to track the culprits.

“On reaching a particular point in the bush three cows tied to a rope were intercepted by the operatives.

“Subsequently, the complainant identified his stolen bull while the other two recovered cows were kept until their owners come and reclaim them,” he said, adding that efforts were being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Abdullahi further said that operatives also detained two suspects for alleged burglary and theft of properties worth N3.2 million.

He said preliminary investigation showed that the items were sold to a suspected buyer at N80,000,

The spokesman said the command recovered the items from the suspects, adding that they would soon be charged to court.

Abdullahi urged residents of the state to report suspicious persons and activities to security agencies.
