Mba was said to have been shot dead by a police inspector on Friday at the Anti-Cult Unit of the Enugu State Police Command on Friday.

The incident triggered protests as hundreds of residents marched to the anti-cult headquarters and attempted to burn it down.

Worried by the incident, the state governor, Peter Mbah, ordered an investigation into the killing of the musician.

In a statement on Saturday, the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, revealed identity of the trigger-happy cop.

Nduke, a deputy superintendent of police, gave the name of the police inspector as Joseph Ozonwanji.

The Command’s spokesman also attached a photograph of the inspector in a detention facility.

He stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, later visited the musician’s family in the company of officials of the Enugu State Government.

According to the statement, the CP commiserated with the family of the slain musician as well as friends over his death.

He assured the people of Enugu State that the ongoing investigation into the case would be concluded speedily and justice would be duly served.

Uzegbu emphasised that Police Force remains a disciplined organisation where erring police officers are usually punished for their misconduct.
