The police, on Tuesday, arraigned four persons before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of copper wires.
The defendants, Abdulsalam Saadu, 22, Usman Abubakar, 19, Bello Ismail, 23 and Abdulazeez Leo, 20, are facing a charge of possession of copper wires.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the defendants committed the offence on May 8 at about 4:00 a.m at Adehun Area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants, who are scavengers had in their possession, pieces of copper wires reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
While the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them, their counsel, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, in his ruling, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety each in like sum.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till June 3 for hearing.
