NSCDC strengthens community ties for security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has credited the professional conduct of its personnel to strong relationships with host communities.

State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, stated this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by Mr Adeleye Ajayi, Head of Lagos Operations, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He highlighted that such community support fosters national growth and stability.

Keshinro stated that conflict resolution skills, acquired through NSCDC’s collaboration with the German foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), have been instilled in the command’s personnel.

KAS, closely linked to Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), promotes freedom, justice, and solidarity.

“These principles enable us to identify potential conflict zones, engage communities, and maintain security while safeguarding critical infrastructure,” Keshinro said.

He welcomed the collaboration with NAN, Africa’s leading news agency, to enhance public awareness campaigns against vandalism.

“We are committed to community engagement and believe NAN’s credibility will help amplify our initiatives,” he added.

Ajayi expressed NAN’s commitment to strengthening ties with NSCDC, recognising its role in national security.

“NAN disseminates news to media houses across print and broadcast platforms, ensuring factual and balanced reporting,” he said.

He noted that the agency, with 35 state offices and over 500 reporters, is dedicated to accurate news dissemination.

Ajayi emphasised NAN’s role in countering misinformation, particularly on social media, through verified reporting.

“We prioritise credibility and reliability, ensuring our news remains factual and comprehensive,” he stated.

He was accompanied by Mr Kevin Okunzuwa, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of Defence and Security Desk, Lagos Editorial Operations.
