Nigerian Army Sacks Top General Over Missing Funds

Major General Hakeem Oladapo Otiki, a former General Officer Commanding 8 division in Sokoto, has been dismissed from the Nigerian Army with “disgrace and dishonour”. The General Court Martial found him guilty on all five counts, including disobedience to service orders and theft of public property.

As part of his punishment, Otiki’s rank has been reduced from Major General to Brigadier General, and he’s also facing severe reprimand. However, these sentences are subject to confirmation by the Army Council.

The dramatic fall of the top military officer has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian Army, with many calling for greater accountability and transparency within the military hierarchy.
