Nigerian Army Decorates First Female Infantry Corps Army Warrant Officer in Abuja

The Nigerian Army Women Command achieved a historic milestone on Friday, January 3, 2025, as Brigadier General Mathias Amatso, Commander of the Nigerian Army Women Command, decorated Army Warrant Officer Hajara Egbunu with her new rank badge. The ceremony, held at the Command Conference Room, marked a groundbreaking achievement as Egbunu became the first female soldier of the elite Infantry Corps and the Nigerian Army Women Command to ascend to the esteemed rank of Army Warrant Officer.

Lieutenant Maureen Ogbuka, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Nigerian Army Women Command, noted in a statement that Brigadier General Amatso commended Egbunu’s unwavering professionalism, effectiveness, and dedication. He highlighted that her promotion was well-deserved, a testament to her hard work and exceptional service. The Commander urged her to continue setting high standards by instilling discipline and motivating younger soldiers, while reaffirming her commitment to the Nigerian Army’s values.

In her vote of thanks, Army Warrant Officer Egbunu expressed profound gratitude to God and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, for his exemplary leadership and for granting her the opportunity to reach this remarkable rank. She also appreciated the guidance of Brigadier General Amatso, which had been instrumental in her role as the Command’s Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).

The momentous event concluded with a group photograph and light refreshments, creating a celebratory atmosphere to honor the trailblazing achievement.
