NGO creates platform to combat GBV in Katsina communities 

An NGO, Community Dialogue Committee (CDC), supported by Global Rights, has created a platform for Katsina communities affected by the recurring security challenges to brainstorm on the plausible solutions.

They are also to be discussing the security and other social issues through sustained dialogue to proffer such workable solutions.

The Project Lead Officer, Mr Muhammad Ibrahim-Maifada, stated this at a one-day sensitisation in Daddara Community, Jibia Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

He said that the objective of the project was to facilitate peace building in communities.

This is by robustly involving all the  members in the decision-making on security, GBV and other social issues for the relevant security agencies to take action.

The officer mentioned women’s groups, physically-challenged persons, youths, religious leaders, traditional rulers, security agents, local authority, as critical stakeholders in the peace building efforts in every community.

He revealed that the project, which was introduced in 2024, has been working with different security agencies, to encourage community participation in the decision-making in peace building efforts.

The dialogue, he said, would assist to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of Community Dialogue Committees in promoting peaceful coexistence and community development.

The Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Dikko Radda on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim-Danja, said that security has been the major priority of the present administration.

He said that the government welcomed any organisation working towards complementing government’s efforts to ensure security of lives and property in the state.

Ibrahim-Danja commended security agents, community and religious leaders, and other stakeholders for their untiring efforts to ensure peace and stability in the state.

In his remarks, the District Head of Daddara, Alhaji Usman Usman-Nagogo, commended the NGO for introducing the initiative, which he said, was timely.

He expressed hope that such meetings would also assist to ensure that the GBV victim’s right was protected by ensuring that appropriate punishment was taken against perpetrators.

Usman-Nagogo, therefore, directed that similar committees be established in all the wards under the district and be conducting regular meetings on security and other social problems affecting the society.

Hajiya Adama Bakori, the State Coordinator, Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), said that all hands must be on deck to build a lasting peace in those communities.

Bakori, represented by Hajiya Binta Tafashiya, urged that committee members should have respect for diversity to achieve the set objective.
