Lagos commissioner urges strict road safety compliance

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has reiterated the need for constant safety consciousness.

Osiyemi made this remark during an assessment visit to the site of Tuesday night’s gas tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge.

This is contained in a statement on Thursday by Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs.

The commissioner noted that in spite of a road sign prohibiting trucks in the area, the driver violated the rule, leading to the fire.

“This has necessitated the further deployment of technical safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.

He added that the assessment allowed the team to examine not just transport infrastructure but also structures affected by the fire.

These include structural cracks on the bridge and surrounding facilities, which must be assessed for integrity.

Osiyemi urged heavy-duty vehicle drivers to uphold the highest safety standards and support government efforts to protect lives and property.

He reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to a safer, more resilient transport system for all.
