Jigawa FRSC to combat road crashes through homegrown initiatives-Sector commander

The Jigawa Command of the Federal Road Safe Corps (FRSC), says it is intensifying efforts to combat road crashes in the state through homegrown initiatives.

Mr Umar Masa’udu, the state Sector Commander of the corps, disclosed this in Dutse on Tuesday, during a press briefing to commemorate the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week.

Masa’udu said that the edition with the theme “Streets for Life; #MakeWalkingSafe #MakeCyclingSafe”, aimed at raising global awareness about road safety and accident prevention.

”I wish to relate to you some of the critical road traffic management issues as well as the strategies we have put in place to ensure that our roads are always safe for all road users.

“Some of the challenging issues confronting the safety of road users plying our highways are overloading, mixed loading, speed, night trips, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol as well as stress or fatigue.

“To manage and mitigate these challenges the corps has gone into aggressive sensitisation programmes in media, parks, religious centers, markets and schools.

”This is with a view to creating more awareness to younger ones under the Youth Safety Education (YSE) programme,” Masa’udu said.

He explained that the command had also put in place other strategies to combat crashes on roads across the state by minimising road traffic crashes through its homegrown initiatives.

The commander urged the motoring public to understand that the corps could only achieve a crash-free society when communities also play their parts in making the road safer for all.

He reassured the residents that the command had set up machineries towards entrenching sanity on all roads across the state.
