The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has charged the newly recruited police constables to demonstrate high sense of professionalism and integrity in the line of duty.
Egbetokun stated this during the Passing-out-Parade of 55 police constables, on Thursday in Bauchi.
Represented by Auwal Mohammad, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Egbetokun charged them to adhere to the rule of law and established procedures.
“Your role demands empathy and compassion towards the civilian population, particularly the vulnerable, while maintaining firmness andfairness in all interactions.
“Strive to be perceived as a friend and partner to the public, inspiring hope and confidence in the security apparatus.
“Remember that the uniform you wear and the office you hold, are symbols of trust and responsibility, never to be exploited for intimidation, harassment, or perversion of justice,” he said.
He admonished them to shun acts of lawlessness, human rights abuse and unprofessional conduct, stressing that they should strive to protect the citizens, enforce laws and apprehend criminals.
Egbetokun said the force graduated 10,000 newly recruited constables simultaneously trained in four colleges and 12 training schools in the country.
He said the training exercise instilled necessary orientation, to enable them to address the complex security challenges facing the nation, while adhering to the principles of the law.
Egbetokun lauded the Federal Government for its commitment to address manpower gaps to strengthen the police force.
Also, DIG Hamisu Argumgun (rtd), Chairman, Police Service Commission, said that career progression would be predictable within the requirements of established rules and regulations.
Represented by Ahmed Aliyu, Director of Procurement in the commission, Argungu said the federal government had initiated viable programmes to provide logistics and enhance manpower development in the force.
