IGP Pledges Stronger Synergy with NYSC, Vows Enhanced Security for Corps Members

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has pledged to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ensure enhanced protection of Corps Members nationwide.

The IGP made this commitment while receiving the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Akinmeji Nafiu, during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Describing Brig Gen Nafiu as a seasoned and professional Army officer, Egbetokun emphasized that the partnership between the Police and NYSC — which has endured for decades — is more critical now than ever, particularly in view of the security challenges facing the country.

“We recognize the vital role of Corps Members in national development. It is, therefore, our responsibility to ensure their safety wherever they are posted,” the IGP stated. “We must strengthen our partnership to match today’s realities and ensure Corps Members can serve with confidence and peace of mind.”

He praised the NYSC’s enduring contributions to national unity, peace, and youth development since its inception in 1973. He also commended the NYSC National Cultural Troupe for its outstanding performance during the recently held National Police Day celebration in Abuja.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Nafiu expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police for its consistent support in securing NYSC Orientation Camps, offices, and Corps Lodges across the country. He also lauded the special surveillance efforts by the Police during orientation exercises, which help ensure the safe arrival of prospective Corps Members.

“As we prepare for the upcoming Orientation Course scheduled from April 23 to May 13, 2025, we appeal for sustained and enhanced security support, especially on our roads,” he said.

The NYSC DG also highlighted the scheme’s shift towards youth empowerment through skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training, aimed at curbing social vices and building a generation of self-reliant Nigerian youths.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepening institutional ties in service of national peace, youth development, and security.
