FRSC reiterates commitment to public safety

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reiterated its commitment to public safety and emergency response.

This followed a swift and coordinated response to a burning gas truck incident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

This is contained in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide in Abuja on Wednesday.

Ogungbemide said that the incident, which occurred on March 11, at the popular Otedola Bridge, posed a significant threat to lives and properties.

He, however, said that the prompt response of the FRSC, in collaboration with the Fire Service and other emergency responders, prevented further damage and ensured the safety of road users.

According to him, the rescue reports submitted to the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed stated that the crash involved 11 people, all male adults, with five injured and two killed.

“The multiple crashes were attributed to mechanical deficiency, specifically break failure, and this involved a total of 15 vehicles, “he said.

Ogungbemide quoted the FRSC Corps Marshal as expressing his displeasure over the preventable crash and called on all fleet managers to prioritise safety precautions.

He warned that sanctions would be meted out on drivers and vehicle owners that compromise on safety.

Ogungbemide stated that the FRSC would continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all road users.

The FRSC boss emphasised the importance of adhering to safety protocols, particularly for vehicles carrying hazardous materials.

He urged all road users to remain vigilant and report any emergency situation to the FRSC or other relevant authorities through the Corps’ toll-free emergency line 122.
