FRSC adopts community-based initiatives to reduce accidents in Katsina

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina Command, says it will strengthen sensitisation and public education through community-based initiatives to reduce accidents on the highways.

The new Sector Commander, Katsina Command, Mr Maxwell Lede-Kaltungo, stated this while addressing the personnel of the command shortly after he assumed duty on Tuesday in Katsina.

“Our first strategic focus will be strengthening road safety sensitisation and public education through community-based initiatives, like school outreach, media engagements, and religious institutions.

“Knowledge is a powerful tool in changing attitudes, and we will ensure that both urban and rural populations are well-informed about safe road practices,” he assured.

Lede-Kaltung also said that they would deepen inter-agency collaboration with sister security outfits, saying,”this is to enhance compliance, ensure seamless enforcement, and promote mutual operational support.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and together, we will make our roads safer.”

Lede-Kaltung revealed that the FRSC would conduct a comprehensive environmental scan of the state to identify road traffic black spots, hazardous corridors, and accident-prone areas.

“From this evidence-based mapping, we will generate policy recommendations and infrastructural suggestions to relevant authorities for implementation.

“Fourth, I pledge to prioritise the welfare, capacity building, and professional development of our personnel.

“Our men and women in uniform are the lifeblood of this institution, and their growth and well-being will remain a central part of my leadership,” the sector commander assured.

He, therefore, urged transport unions, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, the media and local councils to continue to join hands with the FRSC to achieve the set goals.

“Road safety is not a task for one agency alone. It is a shared civic obligation. Your support, insight, and collaboration will be invaluable as we build a safer future.

“Let me end with this solemn assurance: I am here to serve, I am here to listen, I am here to lead. Let us walk this path together,” he said.

Lede-Kaltungo, who took over as the 26th sector commander, succeeded Mr Aliyu Ma’aji, who was moved to the Zamfara Command.
