CP Jimoh attributes Lagos crime curtailment to visibility strategy, intelligence collaboration

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has attributed the noticeable reduction in crime, particularly kidnapping in the state to his newly implemented visibility strategy, among other initiatives.

Jimoh explained that the deployment of both uniformed officers and undercover detectives to virtually every nook and cranny of Lagos had instilled public confidence in the police and caused fear among criminals, compelling many to retreat.

The commissioner made this known during a courtesy visit by the management of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), led by Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, Head of Lagos Editorial Operations, on Wednesday.

“I swiftly adopted several strategies, including increased personnel visibility, crime prevention, proactive policing, detention, and traffic control.

“These measures are already yielding results in curbing criminal activities in the state,” he said.

“Although some of these strategies are capital-intensive, they are innovative and essential to ensuring Lagos remains a safe environment where people and businesses can thrive.

“It is well-established that every crime begins with an interaction.

“Often, understanding the culture and dynamics of a place helps in crime fighting. This awareness informed the strategies I adopted.

“I must also highlight that intelligence-sharing and collaboration with sister security agencies have significantly contributed to reducing criminal activity in the state,” he added.

Earlier in her remarks, Omowole congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and praised him for the prevailing calm and security witnessed in Lagos since he assumed office.

She said that crime prevention was a shared responsibility and noted that, as a key player in the news industry, NAN was eager to partner with the command in its ongoing efforts to reduce crime in the state.

Omowole also used the opportunity to introduce Mr Kevin Okunzuwa, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of Defence and Security at NAN, to the commissioner, with the aim of strengthening collaboration on crime reportage and information dissemination.
