Conditions in Lebanon ‘deteriorating at alarming rate’ – UN

The United Nations on Wednesday warned that Lebanon’s humanitarian crisis is deteriorating at an alarming rate amid the relentless bombardment by Israeli.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) made the observation.

“The relentless bombardment is amplifying the suffering of vulnerable populations,” the organisation said.

At least four people were killed on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike in an area south of the capital Beirut, the Lebanese Health Ministry said.

In the year since the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, more than 600,000 people have been internally displaced in Lebanon according to UN figures, with 80 per cent of 978 collective shelters already at capacity.

At least 75 per cent of the shelters are converted school buildings.

The beginning of the school year has already been postponed to November amid the fighting.

Some 350,000 children have been displaced during the conflict in Lebanon, figures from UNICEF suggest.
