Residents and motorists in Oyo and Ogun will enjoy adequate security and safety of lives and property during the upcoming yuletide, the Joint Security Commission for both states has said.
Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State’s Gov. Seyi Makinde, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Ibadan.
He said the Commission gave the assurance after a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday in Ibadan.
“The Commission assured that there will be nothing to fear, especially around the border areas and highways of both states,” Olanrewaju said.
He indicated that the meeting was held to review and harmonise activities towards the yuletide.
Olanrewaju added that the Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on Security, Mr Fatai Owoseni, and his Ogun counterpart, Mr Olusola Subair, led members of the committee from both states.
He disclosed that Owoseni, while speaking on behalf of the committee, said it met to also re-strategise to strengthen security measures put in place for residents during the yuletide.
Olanrewaju said the committee expressed its appreciation of Gov. Makinde and Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun for providing adequate equipment and supporting all the security agencies in their respective states.
The governor’s spokesperson then implored residents of both states to be security-conscious, asserting that security is the obligation of all.
He went on to quote Owoseni as saying: “What this meeting has done is to appraise all the efforts the security operatives of the two states have been making on the common highways that connect the two states.
“Looking at what we started more than two years ago, we have established that we have covered a lot of miles positively with regards to curbing criminal activities on the common highways of the two states.
“The purpose of doing this appraisal is to also strategise for the yuletide and beyond to see areas where we need to improve on.
“Strategies have been put in place in order to give confidence to the motoring public, especially our people that would be coming back from the diaspora for the festive period.
“So, I want to say this axis in the South-West remains safe and secure and we will do more to ensure that people come here to enjoy their Christmas and New year celebration and beyond without any let or hindrance.
