Abia Govt. to sensitise youths to Nigerian Army recruitment

Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has said that the State Government will join in sensitising the youths to the ongoing nationwide recruitment into the Nigerian Army.

He said this when he received a delegation from the 2025 Nigerian Army Recruitment Awareness Team at the Government House, Umuahia on Wednesday.

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Caleb Ajagba, emphasised the importance of aligning with the Nigerian Army’s broader vision for national security.

He said that the State Government would make the sensitisation efforts on enlisting into the Nigerian Army to become a regular part of the state’s youth engagement strategy.

“We will help to make sure that Abia citizens, especially the youths, embraced this opportunity.

“The government will set up the necessary structures to ensure that eligible individuals within the target age bracket are adequately sensitised,” Otti said.

He also said that security remains a prerequisite for sustainable development and economic growth in any society.

He commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism and ensuring that the South-East was actively integrated into national security operations.

He also commended the organisation for collaborating with local authorities and traditional institutions.

Earlier, the Team Lead,  Brig.-Gen. Chima Ekeator, regretted over the “low participation” of youths in South-East states in the Army’s recruitment.

Ekeator said that in the last exercise, “Abia was alloted nearly 200 slots but only 53 slots were filled”.

He disclosed that the Army leadership had started working to change the narrative by actively engaging stakeholders and conducting town hall meetings across the region.
