Mr Adetula Lawal, the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Osun, has reaffirmed the agency’s zero tolerance for corruption.
Lawal said this at a news conference in Osogbo on Friday, when reacting to allegations that some of its officers extort and collect bribes from the public.
The commander said that the allegations were unsubstantiated and lacked merit.
Lawal, who reeled out some of the achievements of his command, disclosed that the agency has a dedicated monitoring team responsible for checking corruption within its ranks.
He said the agency also issues regular circulars to remind staff of the implications of engaging in corrupt practices.
Lawal commended the Osun Government for creating Imole-War Against Drug Abuse (I-WADA) to complement the established NDLEA War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme, designed to contain the drug menace.
He highlighted the agency’s efforts to combat the high use of drugs among youth in the state through aggressive enforcement and prosecution, as well as sensitisation and rehabilitation of addicts.
The commander said that the agency was working hard to reduce the demand and supply chain of illicit drugs in the state.
He acknowledged the crucial role of the mass media in raising awareness and supporting the agency’s efforts in the fight against trafficking and consumption of hard drugs.
