Zulum appoints Borno State Hajj Commission Chairman, members

 Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has approved the appointment of key officials for the newly established Borno State Hajj Commission, subject to confirmation by the State House of Assembly.

This is contained in a statement by the governor’s Spokesperson, Malam Dauda Iliya, in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Zulum appointed Alhaji Mohammed Mainok as the Executive Chairman of the commission, Haruna Kukawa as Vice-Chairman, while Mohammed Ali Ahmed is the Secretary.

Before their appointment, Mainok was the acting Executive Secretary of the defunct Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board, while Kukawa was a former member of the Borno State House of Assembly, representing Kukawa Constituency.

Zulum also approved the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Mari and Abatcha Umar as full-time members

Six others: Sheikh Abubakar Kyari, Khallifa Allamin Banki, Mr Ahmed Abdulkadir, Sheikh Gambo Kyari, Hajja Safiya Ibrahim, and Alhaji Yusuf Ali are to serve as part-time members.

Their appointments, made under Section 4(a), (b), (c), and Section 5 of the Borno State Hajj Commission Law 2024, are for an initial term of four years, renewable for another four years.

Iliya noted that the commission would operate under the Office of the Deputy Governor of the state to ensure effective monitoring and supervision of its activities.

NAN reports that the newly formed commission was expected to oversee the coordination and management of Hajj operations for intending pilgrims from Borno State.
