Ex-classmates honour late Gen. Lagbaja, donate 11,000 books to alma mater

Marking the 57th posthumous birthday of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, his secondary school classmates on Friday donated 11,000 exercise books to their alma mater, St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo.

The school’s principal, Mr. John Ajayi, who was a member of the 1984 set alongside Lagbaja, described him as a passionate advocate for education who made significant contributions to the school, his hometown, and the country.

Ajayi recalled that during his lifetime, Lagbaja donated educational materials, a library, and a stadium to the school. He noted that the latest donation, organized through Real Care Humanity Foundation and funded by Alhaji Jinadu Gazali, was a tribute to his legacy.

We are celebrating Taoreed Lagbaja, who would have turned 57 today. Though he is no longer with us, we remember his remarkable contributions to our school,” Ajayi said.

Describing Lagbaja’s school days, he added: “He was one of the quietest students in our set, so it was a surprise when we heard he had joined the military. He later became a gallant officer who served the nation with distinction. Thanks to him, we now have one of the best e-libraries and stadiums, and he even fenced the school.”
