The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh, urged the Tactical Commanders to enhance crime reduction efforts while upholding professionalism and compliance with human rights standards.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a
statement on Saturday in Lagos.
He said that the CP gave the charge during the meeting with all tactical commanders within the command on Saturday at the command’s Headquarters, Ikeja.
“CP Jimoh charged the officers to ensure they sustain the onslaught against crimes and criminals.
“He charged them to further reduce the crime rate in the state to the barest level in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, ” he said
“The CP cautioned the commanders to always uphold the human rights of all Nigerians, emphasising that any officer found violating an individual’s rights would face disciplinary action in line with police regulations and the laws of the land.”
The spokesperson stated that the police chief declared zero tolerance for the maltreatment of suspects in detention.
“CP Jimoh warned all officers in charge of detention facilities to strictly adhere to police procedures on the care and custody of suspects in their custody.
“He directed that suspects should promptly be charged to court within the statutory stipulated time by the law, ” the image maker said.
He stated that the police chief reaffirmed his commitment to providing optimal police service delivery, ensuring the safety, protection, and security of all residents of Lagos state.
According to Hundeyin, the meeting is coming less than a week into the resumption of Jimoh on Tuesday as 41st Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command and in line with his maiden speech.
