ROSOWA to intensify advocacy against under-age driving across Nigeria schools

The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA) says it will commence advocacy in secondary schools against under-age driving in order to amplify the dangers inherent across the country.

The ROSOWA President, Dr Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed said this during the send-forth ceremony organised in honour of Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu on Saturday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu is the wife of the immediate past Corps Marshal of the  FRSC  Dauda Ali-Biu who retired in 2024.

Dr Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed said that under-age driving had been a menace in the society, adding that the association was looking at reducing it to the barest minimum.

“I can’t imagine we as parents leaving our younger children to drive without the right age. We are trying to see how we can clamp it down to the barest minimum in our society.

“Like I said earlier, secondary school is our catchment area because that is where we can propagate, where we can talk, educate and advocate that.

“We believe that by educating them and telling them not to embark on that until they attain that age of 18 maximally would go a long way in addressing the scourge.

“That is what we intend to do in the best possible time, “she said.

The ROSOWA President commended the past presidents of the association, particularly the founder, Mrs Rhoda Hananiya who she said worked really hard and tirelessly in creating and nurturing the group.

“I want to assure us all that have stepped into her shoes that the present executives will follow in her footsteps by organising skill acquisition programmes and embarking on projects that would benefit everyone.

“I want to further assure us that the present administration would do everything necessary to impact positively in the lives of members.

“This is necessary so that at the end of our tenure, we will also have something to bequeath to our successors.

“To be more precise, we intend to strengthen initiatives to promote road safety awareness in secondary schools, targeting young students.

“We will also work alongside partner agencies to enhance Road safety campaigns across Nigeria,”she maintained.

Speaking, Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu appreciated the association for counting her worthy of celebration, adding that she was elated at the show of love.

She tasked the present executives on hard work and dedication saying that there was a need to move the association to its next level by supporting the good work of FRSC and carrying out its mandate.

“I am happy today. Thanks be to almighty Allah because I know this comes from him and I dedicate this show of love to all the Past ROSOWA’s Presidents and members of the association,”she said.

Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed admonished the association on unity, dedication and selflessness.

Mohammed, who was represented by Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) in charge of training, Chidiebere Nkonta assured ROSOWA of the Corps’ support in complementing their work.

“As your husbands, we have enjoyed your support, and thanks to all of you. We have your back always.

“We will support your programmes, draw them out and let us know, and also, let there be unity among you,” he emphasised.

Highlights of the event were presentation of gifts to the celebrant, and awards to past presidents and some deserving executive members
