Otti hails outgoing 14 Brigade Commander for keeping Abia safe, peaceful

Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has lauded the outgoing Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brig.-Gen. Olusola Diya, for his contribution to the rejigging of the state’s security architecture.

Otti spoke in his office in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, on Wednesday, during the introduction of the new Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Hassan Bello.

He said that Diya served in Abia for 12 months and “left an excellent record of performance that promoted peace and security in the state.

“I must put on record, Diya’s service to the state  lasted for one year, but it feels like he has spent two years because of the level of activities he championed.

“His transfer came to us as a rude shock, we knew he will leave but didn’t know it will be this quick.

“We thank God because he is still in service and a member of this family.

“We have worked closely on the security architecture of the state, then at some point we had to rejig this architecture  and he redesigned it,” he said.

The governor also said that Diya sat as the Head of the state’s inter-agency operation, codenamed “Operation Crush”, adding that the team had done very well in the past one year to rid Abia of crime and criminality.

He urged the new brigade commander to build on what his predecessor  had done to sustain the peace and security in the state.

Otti also charged him to evolve new ways of fighting crime and build on the achievements of his predecessor.

He said that the State Government prioritises security  and would spare no effort in ensuring Abia remains safe, given that security plays a vital role in socioeconomic development.

“If we cannot guarantee some reasonable level of security here every other thing we are doing would pay little significance,” Otti said.

In a remark, Diya described Abia as a family to him because of the support he received from the government which, he said, empowered him to discharge his duties effectively.

He described his successor as a dedicated officer that would bring innovative ideas to the business of maintaining peace and security in the state.

Also, Bello expressed his readiness  to work with other security agencies to sustain and improve on the gains of his predecessor.

He also said that he would bring his wealth of experience to bear in supporting the vision of the governor to make Abia the most peaceful and secured state in the country.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Comdr. MacDonald Ubah (rtd.), described security as the bedrock of any society.

Ubah thanked the governor for providing security agencies in Abia with all the needed support for achievement of a peaceful and secured state.

He said that a lot was achieved during the period of the outgoing brigade commander.

He also said that he hoped that the new commander would surpass the record of his predecessor
