CDS Meets with Oil and Gas Stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Sets Aggressive Oil Output Goal

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, met today, February 4, 2025, with key stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to address the challenges affecting optimized oil production in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information, the CDS emphasized the critical role of oil production in driving socio-economic development. He noted that significant progress has been made in increasing production levels, with current output surpassing 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd). This achievement, he stated, reflects the dedication of all stakeholders involved in the sector.

However, General Musa called for greater collective efforts to achieve the Presidential directive of raising production to over 2.2 million bpd. He urged stakeholders to be honest and objective in identifying challenges and to ensure that strategies for addressing them are inclusive, comprehensive, and realistic.

Recognizing the complex dynamics of the oil and gas industry, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) convened the meeting to foster effective stakeholder engagement and sustain the sector’s growth.

The meeting had in attendance the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Chiefs of Operations from DHQ, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and Nigerian Air Force, as well as representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe, and delegates from oil-producing states.
