Group pledges support for military’s mental health programme

The Niger Delta Youth Council Worldwide (NDYC) has expressed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian military with mental health training and awareness programmes.

The National Coordinator of NDYC, Mr Jator Abido, said this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday while commemorating the 2025Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

According to Abido, this initiative aims to enhance the well-being and motivation of military personnel, who have been facing numerous security challenges in the country.

Abido added that the decision was to partner with the military on mental health issues stemmed from the organisation’s recognition of the immense pressure soldiers face in combating terrorism and insecurity.

“Our armed forces are going through a lot, and some of these soldiers have challenges with post-traumatic experiences.

“The NDYC’s support for the military’s mental health is timely, given the country’s decade-long struggle with multifaceted security challenges, including Boko Haram, banditry, IPOB, and communal clashes.

“Already, experts have emphasised that the Nigerian Army has been stretched to its limit, leading to increased stress and mental health-related issues among soldiers. Our intervention is therefore timely and necessary,” NDYC boss said.

He emphasised the importance of mental health awareness across all military formations in the country.

He commended the leadership of the armed forces, particularly Gen. Christopher Musa, for improving the fight against terrorism since he assumed office as Chief of Defence Staff.

“The NDYC’s pledge to support the military’s mental health is a call to action for all Nigerians to join hands in promoting the well-being of the country’s security personnel. Security is everyone’s business.
